Annual NRC Barbecue
NRC held their annual BBQ at
Holdenby House once again this year within the grounds of Icarus Falconry.
The weather was a little unsettled, quite blustery and threatening rain, and
so a marquee cover was quickly erected, which almost immediately prompted
the sun to shine!
Refreshments were cracked
open, and chairs were gathered around and the afternoon was underway.
The BBQ arrived and set up in
the corner, whole chickens being cooked to perfection and salads and various
sides were laid out to fill each plate several times over!
By now the weather had
settled down quite nicely and the aroma of barbecuing chicken filled the
air, and at last it felt a little like a summer afternoon!
Various entertainments had
been arranged, Julian Watson had organised ferret racing to provide us with
entertainment and to
raise some funds for the club, whilst Joe Malkin had his Wii set up in the
sunhouse and issued a challenge to all comers to beat him at bowling,
raising funds for the club in the process.
John Elliott had brought
along a stickmaker friend who had some very finely made sticks.
The raffle was also a hugely
supported concern, with several fine prizes donated by club members.
The long awaited chickens
were finally ready, most people by now ready to eat after sniffing the aroma
filled air! An orderly queue was formed, and each person was given a
generous 1/2 chicken portion.
The chickens were barbecued
to perfection and extremely tasty, and saw several people return for
seconds!
The food was enjoyed by all,
several groups sitting down together to tuck in and chat. The weather held
good, and the ambient surroundings of birds pegged out and aviaries and
weatherings was conducive to all enjoying the day.
Once again, thanks to Mike at
Icarus Falconry for making the centre available for the event, and to our
spectacular chef, who has yet again kept us fully fed and satisfied!! Hope
to see him again next year!

Also thanks to all those who
gave their support by attending and patronising all the evnts on the day so
that the club was able to raise funds. You will all see the benefits in the
coming months as the club continues to establish itself in the falconry
world.
Here's to next year!!
