CHECK OUT THE NRC ONLINE FORUM! Next meeting is on 25th June, 2009
What a cracking day...after some torrential rain, the sun came out, and NRC had a great day out!! Click here to read up...
NRC are bound for Kent to visit the team at Eagle Heights on Sunday 7th June. Those who are travelling on the mini-bus need to be at Wooton Pavillion for an 8 o'clock departure. We estimate the drive to be around 2 hours, so bring a drink if you feel you might need one! Those of you travelling by car also need to meet at Wooton Hall Pavillion as we will be entering Eagle Heights en bloc in order to obtain the discount on offer.
Artist Paula Fardell has arranged to come and talk to us at our July member's meeting. Paula generally paints in watercolours, though for other subjects she uses oils, pastels, ink and pencils. She will be talking to us about her work, what got her started and what, concerning raptors, inspires her to paint them. she will also actually be working on the night, on a study of a Saker Falcon, so that we can all see how an artist works, and being a sociable bunch, I'm sure we'll be chatting to her while she works! Below are some examples of Paula's work:
The images will not, obviously, do the original works justice, but they do give an idea of the extreme detail captured by Paula. If you would like your bird painted in any of the mediums that Paula works in, bring along some of your favourite photographs and chat to Paula. I'm sure she will be afforded a warm NRC welcome on the night!
Many thanks for an informative and interesting talk to Martin Hollinshead.
Martin shared his
experiences over the years with us, from getting into eagle flying in
Germany to Harris hawking in Shropshire, and provided an excellent slide
show to accompany his talk. Being a several times published author, Martin also had a selection of his books for sale, which he signed for those who purchased. A great success of an evening, and we hope to see Martin again in the future. Next month sees a New Zealand Sheep Shearer visit the club, it takes all sorts to make a world!

Could everyone PLEASE check your diaries and see if you are available on June 7th for the Eagle Heights trip. We have made a reservation, and the following applies: Entrance prices are £8.50 per adult, £7 per OAP/Disabled and £5 per child minus a 10% discount. This would include the guided tour. This is for a minimum of 20 people. This is Eagle Heights generous offer to us as a club. As mentioned at the meeting, we will not be booking transport until we have deposits, as we came unstuck with this last year and the club lost money. Go and check out their website from the link above. It promises to be a great day out! You can invite guests if you wish, they do not have to be club members. Please forward your names to Kate Malkin via nraptorclub@aol.com. Please be prompt as June is not as far away as it might seem!!
Many thanks to Steve Halsall for once again coming to visit and bringing his fantastic array of hoods and other equipment, and for entertaining us with a talk of his exploits over the years and his experiences with several types of bird. Cheers Steve!
